okay so im not on the cutting edge of technology, but i do know something great when i use it. we bought a garmin nuvi 660 for our trip to illinois. man was that thing frickin fantastic! in the past we would just drive for a certain amount of hours, find a city near by when we got tired and hoped there was a place to stay that accepted dogs, had wifi and some food near by. well let me tell you that didnt always work, as a matter of fact it hardly ever worked. most of the time we would end up in some crappy no name motel with a gas station snack shop to eat from. not any more my friends, its a new age and we have grasped it by the (insert your favorite body part). the garmin allowed us to find a hotel hours ahead, set it as a destination, call for a room and find food near the hotel. what was super cool was that we could drive into the city we were staying in to find a restaurant not right of the highway. it gives real time traffic, so it will automatically route you around even an accident. but heres the thing you have to listen to the machine! i second guessed a bunch of times and spent way to much time in traffic. we named ours betty, i say trust betty. so google it to find a good price and maybe read some more reviews, but i suggest getting a gps. it made our trip so much better, we didnt fight when we got into town and couldnt find anywhere to stay, after being tired and hungry from hours on the road one tends to get snippy. not with betty, she took us to our hotel and found us food, it was easy.
so enough about betty check out some betty blow tourch!
so got a lot to say about a lot. but going to narrow it to the hotels for now. so we have stayed in 2 super 8s and 3 motel 6s so far, and they are very different, all of them. it s weird, i thought that franchised large corporations had to have a certain commonality to them other than the name. for instance; at the 1st motel 6 we stayed at it was dirty, loud, no wifi, shower suuucked, and kinda scary in a whos gonna take my car kinda way. but we were tired and it was cheap. the next one we hit was on the way back, it had a very large room, great shower, nice build, felt very safe, and free wifi in room and the dog was free (free at all motel 6). now the one we are in tonight is in between, small room, not great shower, had to pay for wifi, bowling across street. so over all i would stay stay at motel 6 but ask a few questions first: wifi in room, size of rooms and if the clerk nows the difference between a queen size bed and a double. plus the tv situation is nuts, some have really nice choices for channels and others dont work at all. plus there is the smell to deal with, i know we are in pet rooms, but come on its not that hard to not have a rotting meat smell! so i guess im actually saying its a crap shoot and i encourage the adventure. hey yall im on the road with the wife and dog. its awsome. we have done a trip every year for the past ten years. we almost always go the same way; from los angeles to chicago, that is along the i 40 the best southern route in the usa. so we decided to try the middle of the country this year along the 70 which goes through utah, colorado, and kansas. wow is it frickin amazing! the most breath taking landscape in the world, as far i know cause i really havent been all over the world, and its easy to drive. very few cars, mountain passes that are easy to handle, geometry of the switch back turn favors high speeds. just a joy to drive. so im in hays, kansas right now after a loonngg day on the road, so i am keeping it short. but will share pics and more later, plus reviews on hotels and gps systems. see yall later!
