so the mens u.s. basketball team proved me right again! check the stats here
so spain was supposed to be the toughest challenge in the first round, not so. what started out as a possible good game do to lots of fouls being called on the u.s. quickly became just another rout in a bunch of games that are nothing more than a preview of the gold medal winners. its done, just hand us the medal now.
the only interesting thing about this game was the adjustment the u.s. meade to how the refs were calling it. in previous games the refs had been calling the game as a truly international game. meaning the defensive player is able to make more hands on contact with the ball handler, it didnt go quite that way today. once the u.s. figured that out, it was all over. and any team that can make serious adjustments on the fly is going to win.
on that topic(the international game) i would love to see more of those rules put into the nba. apparently david stern(nba commissioner) is talking to fiba( the ruling body for the international community) about changing rules and lane shape(to rectangular) and same ball, to make the game closer to nba. hopefully that means loose rules for nba to get the game back to a more physical one.
well thats all for now, enjoy the rest of the olympics.
so have you guys been watching the olympics? i have, and i have been watching a lot of boxing mainly because the coverage on tv only allows me to watch boxing in the middle of the day. the coverage is terrible but thats another post. what im angry about is the scoring in olympic boxing. its archaic and arbitrary. there are human judges that have to hit a button when they “see” a landed punch to score for the boxer. the problem is all the judges have to hit the button with in something like 3 seconds to score, also they are deciding whats a landed or not landed punch, and obviously this doesnt happen correctly. ive watched so many bouts where one boxer has landed 4-5 punches and not 1 was counted. the announcers have even commented that this type of scoring isnt working. come on its time to get modern and do a different type of scoring thats more even and fair to the boxers. the winners arent really winners if its up to some jerk off pressing a button when he or she thinks they saw a punch land.
wooo!! hoooo!! the olympics start friday! im pretty stoked about the usa basketball and thats about it, the rest is super politically charged and im not sure the olympics should even be in china considering what they have done to their own people to make their crap ass country appealing to the rest of the world. but i digress, what im here to talk about is the team. ive been reading some other blogs about how the team is not playing well and they are worried we may not win gold. heres the thing, the us has simply used these first 5 games as pure practice. and thats it, just practice. every team they have played has also used it as practice but with the intent on winning. no team other than the us has used all of its players during the games. meaning they used their best players against our third string. plus many of the teams are saving their best guys from the nba until the olympics actually start. so i guess what im getting at is everybody needs to relax, im sure we are going to se much tighter play and lots of new offensive looks. our defense is awesome! there are lots of great plays in these 5 exhibitions, my favorite was jason kidd blocking the shot of an australian player that was 6′9 while defending a 3 on 1 fast break. think about that kidd is old and short and broke up a fast break with a manhandling blocked shot. im just glad they get to play inside and not have to breath the mud that serves as air outside. so get ready for china in the first round on the 10th. heres the schedule
later players.
so the weekend was great. i went to del mar, drank way too expensive beer, bet some ponies, and won a little bit of money. im not hooked but definately would suggest going to anybody who hasnt. san diego is nice palce, lots of things to do; restaurants, art stuff, and its easy to get around, the public trans is well located and easy to figure out. not like l.a. where its takes an hour to get to a train to get where you want to go. also hampton inns are pretty nice, good breakfast and wifi(they give an access number)and they are fairly tolerant of noisy drunks. at least thats what someone tells me. oh yeah lots of chicks, lots. later.
so he should go to office max and buy $100 worth of stuff and drop 10,000 pennies on the counter.
so im goin to del mar race track in san diego this weekend. i have only been to a horse race track once, didnt even bet when i did go, so why am i going? well its that right of passage into upper adult hood, the b-day party for a land mark age, 40. now i have never been one for the boys goin out to the strip club for the bachelor party or the bar hopping for the 21st, but this seems like its gonna be lots o’ fun. i have always had this idea of horse tracks, the down on his luck compulsive gambler that drinks and smokes too much and sells his kids teddy bear money to hit that sure thing. the track it self being dingy and filthy, losing tickets all over the floor, broken dreams and the smell of failure. never really seemed that enjoyable to me. but i understand that its more of an event or show than i thought, i think its gonna be a new fun experience that will make me a complete person.
seriously im gonna drink some beers, eat some food and lose some money, relax its just some horses running in a circle, its really about the friends and s#$t talkin thats gonna happen. maybe well get a stripper later for my buddies b-day. the point is to have fun with your friends cause life is short and the bets are long!
tried to find a video about horse racing that wasnt lame, found a band called Horse
